Minimum standards
Victorian rentals must meet minimum standards covering items such as door locks, window coverings in bedrooms and living areas, and functioning fixtures. Smoke alarms, electrical safety and gas checks need licensed trades.
Who pays?
Generally, landlords pay for repairs from fair wear and tear, while tenants are responsible for damage beyond that. If unsure, ask your agent or Consumer Affairs Victoria.
